Flowing Wells battled back to beat Mountain View 5-4

Flowing Wells battled back from a 3-0 deficit to beat Marana Mountain View 5-4 on the road Thursday. The Mountain Lions took the lead into the fifth inning but the Caballeros tied it up in the sixth and then pulled out the victory in the top of the seventh.
Mountain View (1-3) scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning after Andrew Garcia walked and Easton Granger followed with an infield hit to the right side. Garcia and Granger pulled off a double steal one out later and then Zane Giron sacrificed Garcia in from third for the second out. Max Ortega singled in Granger for the 2-0 lead.
Mountain View added another run in the bottom of the second after Wyatt Conkin walked, Aundre Hill singled and Garcia singled to bring in Conkin. That score held up until the top of the fifth with Ethan Valencia reaching to start off and then Bruce Gonzalez singled to put two on. Seth McGinnis moved both runners on a sacrifice bunt and then Brady Vanderlaske brought in a run on a ground out RBI.
The Caballeros took a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth inning with two outs. Tommy Padilla reached on a hit-by-pitch and then Oscar Murillo reached on a hit-by-pitch. Valencia reached on an error and the throw brought in a run to make it 3-2. Gonzalez knocked in both runners to make it 4-3 Flowing Wells.
Patrick Robbins singled to start off the bottom of the sixth and he moved to second base one out later on a hit from Hill. Both runners moved on a balk and then the tying run came in on a wild pitch to make it 4-4.
The Caballeros scored the winning run on a one-out single from Jesus Mendivil and he scored later in the inning on an error for the 5-4 lead and win.
Gonzalez got the start for Flowing Wells, Mendivil took the mound in the fourth and Yandel Rios-Arvayo threw the seventh for the win. Gonzalez went 2-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Robbins got the start for Mountain View and he collected six strikeouts. Giron took over in the seventh. Hill went 3-3, Ortega went 2-4 with an RBI and Giron and Garcia had RBIs.

NOTE: The game started out with a ceremony to honor former Mountain View standout Cody Treatch, who passed away last August from a heat and dehydration-related injury suffered during his training to follow in his father’s footsteps in the Rural Metro Fire system. He was only 26.
