Pinnacle's softball team has picked the right time to kick into high gear.

The sixth-seeded Pioneers extended their winning streak to 10 games on Wednesday afternoon in knocking off third-seeded Hamilton, 9-3, in a 6A state tournament winners-bracket game at Hamilton High.

Pinnacle (17-6-1) rode the strong pitching of Kodi Crabtree to victory. Crabtree, a senior, picked up run support in the early innings as teammates supplied her with a 6-0 lead thanks to nine hits.

Pinnacle scored a run in the second inning, three in the third and two in the fourth. Pinnacle's winning streak dates back to April 3.

Pinnacle coach Corey Mathis was undoubtedly pleased with Crabtree's performance.

"She had a no-hitter for a little bit, and did a good job going through the lineup three times," Mathis said. "Our goal this season was to be top eight. We're peaking at the right time."

Crabtree rewarded the run support with no-hit pitching through five innings. The only blemish to that point was a hit batter in the fourth inning.

Her no-hit bid and shutout ended with two outs in the sixth when Hamilton's Taylor Hampton ripped a two-RBI double.

Crabtree settled for a three-hitter, taking a 9-0 lead to the bottom of the sixth. She finished allowing three hits, walking two and striking out nine.

"I knew going in Pinnacle wasn't a true sixth-seed," Hamilton coach Lauren Rosales said. " I was a little disappointed we didn't have more competive at-bats.

"But we're not done yet. We've come back from a loss like this before. It will be tough. We just need to grind it out."
