The Huskies began region play versus the Perry Pumas on Monday.
Perry came out swinging with a three-run second inning which led to a 7-2 victory for the Pumas over Hamilton.
Parker Estfan opened up the scoring in the top of the second inning by grounding into a fielder's choice, which was followed by two errors from the middle infielders each bringing in a run.
In the bottom half of the inning the Huskies did not put up much of a fight as they went down in order.
In the third inning, starting pitcher Brady Wise put up a zero, and in the bottom half of the inning the Huskies loaded the bases with two outs. The Huskies were able to drive in two runs on a single by Sammy Garcia. With the bases still loaded, the inning ended on a Nelson groundout to the second baseman.
In the fourth inning, Wise was getting hit hard, giving up a single and a double off the right field wall, which drove in two.
Wise would then hit the next batter and that would be all for him as he pitched three and two thirds innings, giving up six runs.
Dean Thompson came into relief and quickly surrendered an RBI single to Bronx Rooney.
Perry starting pitcher Dillon Mendoza had a great outing, pitching four innings surrendering three hits and two runs.
The Husky bats were quiet the whole game, as they only had five hits with only two runs scored. Although they weren't hitting, the Huskies still drew a total of five walks. Cory Wuttke and Parker Rahn each had two walks in Monday’s ballgame.
Ben Ball led the Huskies, putting up a 2-for-4 performance at the plate.
Perry collected 13 hits in the game.
Rooney led the way with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate Monday. Rooney and Adrian Sisco each drove in two runs.
Perry also put together a great defensive performance turning three double plays and did not commit a single error.
Huskies catcher Kristopher De Santiago was constantly making adjustments at the plate as the Pumas kept him hitless with a walk.
“It’s definitely frustrating, especially behind the plate because I can see everything and I can see guys just simply missing routine plays.” De Santiago said.
Region games between these two teams are always hard fought and it is important that they don't give each other extra outs in an inning, coach Mike Woods said.
“leads to a three spot and gets those guys believing, and you know, gets us on our heels and you know, gotta make the plays,” head coach Mike Woods said, on the defense making an error on an inning ending double play opportunity.
“I definitely expect the boys, everybody, to come out sharp tomorrow and just jump on them early.” De Santiago said.
The Huskies look to bounce back on Tuesday as they hit the road to face off against the Pumas once more this season.
