Coverage plans: Peoria District students to unveil show

Move over ESPN’s “College GameDay” and make room for Peoria Unified School District’s high school broadcast team.

The high school team is preparing to produce its first pre-game show before Friday’s big rivalry matchup between Peoria District football teams Sunrise Mountain and Liberty. This is also likely the first time that an Arizona high school district will launch a student-produced pre-game show.

The Peoria District student-run show will run from 6:25-6:55 p.m. on aia365.com, which also will webcast the Sunrise Mountain at Liberty game.

“It (pregame show) is a credit to the administrators for recognizing where we are going in terms of high school sports coverage,” said local sports host Kevin Ray.

“For the administration to put the time in and give the students the tools to really thrive is a big undertaking. It gives these kids such a huge step in front of so many.”

The students also will unveil the game-day sets they built for each sideline during Friday’s game.

The Sunrise Mountain-Liberty game also is the Game of the Week on 1060 AM.
