It's been a good season for Gilbert  High's boys soccer team. The Tigers added to their 2012-2013 resume Thursday night with a dominant  5-0 victory over host Mesa Mountain View in a Division I match.

Gilbert, which blanked rival Highland 2-0 earlier this week, improved to 11-2-2 overall and stayed unblemished (8-0) in power-ranking matches with four matches remaining. Mountain View, which lost Tuesday night at home to Mesa High, dropped to 6-9-1, 3-5.

"We're winning games and pressing along," Gilbert coach Jeff Perry said. "We've played Carl Hayden (lost) and Cactus Shadows (tied), a couple really good teams. Tied Corona. We're 8-0 in the power-point games, but our strength of schedule isn't that good. I'm not sure even if we stayed undefeated we'd get to play a home game. We'll keep going and see." 

Thursday's match was decided quickly. The Tigers scored four goals in the first 21 minutes in a wide variety of ways. The first goal came on a set piece with Trevor Irion's throw in headed in by Steve Dale in the fifth minute.

Gilbert made it 2-0 in the 12th minute. Zach Frazier corraled a rebound about 15 yards out, had time to size it up and delivered. Three minutes later Mountain View was called for a foul in the box on a throw in that gave Chris LoConti a penalty kick he converted neatly in the left corner of the net.

Gilbert's final goal of the first half came with help from Mountain View. Irion's throw-in was accidently headed in by Toro player in the 21st minute, so the (own) goal was credited to Irion. 

The Tigers continued to command possession in the second half and finished the night's scoring in the 48th minute. Ryker Seifert became the fifth different player to score, hammering home a deflection after another throw-in by Irion. Mountain View's best chance to score came in the final 20 minutes, but Tiger keeper Hayden Rus was able to smother the ball just in front of the goal-mouth after a mad scramble.

Gilbert has allowed one goal in its eight power-ranking matches, its opener vs. Mesquite. The Tigers are one of six unbeatedn teams in Division I, but are the sixth of those with perfect records thanks to a lesser strength of schedule.
