Carson Jones’ noble actions haven’t gone unnoticed.

The Queen Creek quarterback’s efforts to protect a fellow student from bullies made headlines. For his selflessness, the National Federation of State High School Associations announced Wednesday that Jones will receive a National High School Spirit of Sport Award.

The NFSHSA is divided into eight sections, and Jones is the Section 7 Spirit of Sport winner. Utah, Nevada, California and Hawaii are the other states in Section 7.

The Spirit of Sport Award recognizes individuals who represent the spirit of sport ideals and the federation’s mission of education based athletics. Jones’ GPA is 4.2, and his football season was capped with a Division III state title.

Celebrating with Jones on the field after that title game was the student he watched over, Chy Johnson.
