March 7, 2013 by Jose Garcia, AZPreps365

Know of a high school basketball head coach who consistently demonstrates the best qualities of a coach, educator, mentor and community leader?

Then you can nominate him/her for the Spirit of Cotton Award given by the Phoenix Suns. The award is named after a former popular and successful coach of the Suns, the late Cotton Fitzsimmons.

Some of the previous recipients of the Spirit of Cotton Award include Raul Mendoza of Holbrook, Byron Maynes of Salome, David Lopez of St. Mary’s, Howard Mueller of Greenway and Karen Self of Seton Catholic.

The winner of the award will also receive a $10,000 grant from the Phoenix Suns Charities that will go to the winner’s school’s athletic program. The winner also will be honored during the final regular season home game (April 15) for the Suns.

The deadline to nominate a coach is March 18.
