Findlay Prep celebrates a win over Montverde Academy in the featured game of the 2013 Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass. Organizers are hoping to bring another premier showcase to the West Coast.

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame dropped welcome news for West Coast high school basketball fans Tuesday.

The successful hosts of the Hoophall Classic will add a December event in Phoenix to the list of must-see showcases during the high school season.

Hoophall West is scheduled for Dec. 13-14 at Grand Canyon University. National powers Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.), Orange Lutheran (Calif.) and Yates (Houston) have already made a commitment to participate.

Like the Springfield, Mass., event, there are also plans for local teams to be featured.

"We are extremely excited to announce our high school basketball event expansion with the inaugural Hoophall West," Naismith Hall of Fame president and CEO John L. Doleva said via press release. "We have had an extraordinary amount of success with the Hoophall Classic in Springfield and we are looking forward to bringing some of the nation's top high school programs to Phoenix in December."

Last year's Hoophall Classic in Springfield featured 26 games and 16 teams that were ranked nationally by MaxPreps at some point in the season, including Xcellent 25 national champ Lone Peak (Highland, Utah) and Academy national champ Montverde Academy (Fla.).

With two of the most prominent high school coaches in America in Gary McKnight (Mater Dei) and Steve Smith (Oak Hill Academy) involved in the initial announcement, early signs point to Hoophall West joining the list of "majors" on the high school basketball circuit.
