Arizona boys, girls win 7 of 8 in Border Classic

Arizona teams return home from Chinle in northeastern Arizona with seven victories in eight attempts against New Mexico teams in the Border Classic at Chinle High.
The Arizonans had a four-game sweep on Monday (Dec. 20) and came back to win three of four on Tuesday (Dec. 21).
The boys team from Anthem Boulder Creek defeated Cleveland, N.M., 74-65. The girls team from Kayenta Monument Valley edged Shiprock, N.M., 59-56. The girls team from Fort Defiance Window Rock defeated Lovington, N.M., 54-47. And the boys team from Winslow High gave Espanola Valley, N.M. all it could handle before falling in overtime, 52-49.
The event was sponsored by the Arizona Interscholastic Association. Teams also participated in the distribution of turkeys to the Chinle community before Monday’s play.
