Chandler girls dominate 71st Rotary T&F Invitational

If one guessed what school won a girls event at the 71st annual Chandler Rotary Invitational Track and Field Meet, CHANDLER would have been the best guess.

Chandler female athletes won eight individual events and two relays meaning the Wolves captured first place in 10 of 17 events. They scored a whopping 185 points in winning. Second-place Hamilton checked in a 41.5. Chandler also won the boys team title with 65 points, outpacing second-place Hamilton (43) and third-place Brophy (39).

For Chandler's girls senior Hannah Carson won three events (high jump, shot put and discus) and junior Jasmine Todd won two (100-meters and meet-record effort in the triple jump). Freshman Tope Williams won the 200 meters and sophomores Alexis Roberts (400 meters) and Sherrelle Jordan (100 high hurdles) were also individual champs.

The events Chandler fell short in were the distance races, pole vault and 300 low hurdles. events. Liberty's Ashley Kealamakia won the 800, Albuquerque Academy's Julia Foster won the 1,600 and Chinle's Rolanda Jumbo won the 3,200. Canyon del Oro's Jaide Stepter won the 300 hurdles and Mesa Mtn. View's Lindsey Pew took first in the pole vault.

Top individuals for the boys were Deer Valley sprinter Trae Armstrong, who edged out Chaparral's Devonte Neal in both the 100-meters and 200. Tuba City distance runner Billy Orman claimed the 1,600 and 3,200 titles, with a particularly impressive showing in the 3,200.

Chandler won just one individual boys title with Paul Perkins taking the 300 intermediate hurdles crown. Other individual boys winners were Arcadia's Dylan Hambright (400); Catalina Foothills Dylan Souza (800); Westwood's Cameron Taylor (110 high hurdles); Desert Vista's Edmond Baker (high jump); Hamilton's Just N Thymes (long jump); Tolleson's Brendon Pineda (shot put); Buena's Jeremy Tuttle (discus); George Washington's (Denver. Colo.) Trey Richardson (triple jump) and Yuma Catholic's Paul Corona (pole vault).
