Estrella Foothills basketball is improving daily

In the last day of the Hoopsgiving Tournament at Sunnyslope High school, Ironwood and Estrella Foothills reached the consolation bracket's championship match.
After a tough battle, Estrella Foothills was able to push ahead toward the end and win 49-42 Friday.
The top scores for Estrella Foothills were senior point guard Ricky Robinson, senior shooting guard Grant Greabell and junior guard Nick Masi. Estrella Foothills coach Rich Gutwein was extremely satisfied with how his team preformed in the consolatin final.
“I was really pleased with our performance in this game," he said. "I was really, really happy with how we played and how we executed."
But the same can't be said about how his team performed during the tournament.
Gutwein said his team struggled, but he enjoyed watching his boys put together a complete effort in the consolation championship game.
Gutwein's hopes are high for this year's Estrella Foothills team.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how this team develops," he said. "We have a nice team with a few returners and some new guys who are looking to see some time. So I’m optimistic we’ll have a good year."
Estrella Foothill's biggest challenge is its lack of height, which might hurt them during conference play.
But they are able to overcome their lack of height with their ability to shoot well.
The 4A team certainly displayed that against 5A's Ironwood.
“Our daily goal is to reach our potential as individuals and as a team," Gutwein said. "It really comes down to our effort each day. We’re already looking at tomorrow’s practice as being the most important thing in the world, just as important as today’s game, and we’re just going to keep doing that day after day."
