Track and field athletes put on a strong finishing kick

There were a lot of outstanding efforts from my areas of coverage (north Scottsdale, Phoenix, northwest Valley and northern Arizona) at the state’s track and field meets last weekend.
Here is a look at the winners . . . congratulations to them and all who worked so hard this year . . .
Division I boys – Trae Armstrong, Glendale Deer Valley (100, 200, 400); Tommy Williams, Phoenix Brophy Prep (800); Brendan Pineda, Tolleson (shot put); 4x100 relay – Phoenix South Mountain. 4x400 relay – Deer Valley.
Division I girls – Sarah Fakler, Phoenix Xavier Prep (1,600, 3,200).
Division II boys – Jontrell Wooten, Phoenix Washington (200); Brian Canavan, Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep (400); Jamil Williams, Avondale Agua Fria (long jump); Craig Mattox, Phoenix Thunderbird (triple jump).
Division II girls – Promise Amukamara, Glendale Apollo (100); Kayla Freeman, Phoenix Greenway (3,200); Kinsey Minter, Glendale Cactus (high jump); Alexus Dale, Apollo (discus); 4x100 relay – Glendale Independence.
Division III boys – Josh Weeks, Show Low (400); Matthew Murray, Tuba City (800), Billy Orman, Tuba City (1,600, 3,200); Jacob Rawlins, Snowflake (110 hurdles, triple jump); Shane Nelson, Peoria Liberty (high jump); Daniel Patterson, Show Low (pole vault); 4x400 relay – Liberty.
Division III girls – Jasmin Pratt, Goodyear Estrella Foothills (100, 200, 400); Ashley Kealamakia, Peoria Liberty (800); Rolonda Jumbo, Chinle (3,200); Toney Braley, Cottonwood Mingus (300 hurdles); Cortney Hagerman, Mingus (pole vault).
