Former St. Marys star Simon still pursuing hoops dream

July 14, 2011 by Don Ketchum, AZPreps365

After reading AIA365.com colleague Kevin Ray’s blog about former Mesa Red Mountain star Kayla Pedersen, who went on to star at Stanford and now is in the WNBA, I came across a newspaper article noting that former Phoenix St. Mary’s and Arizona State star point guard Dymond Simon is headed to Australia to play professionally with the West Coast Waves.

Simon always has had a strong work ethic, and it is paying off. It serves as an example to current high school players across the state that you can do anything if you put your mind to it.

Mind over matter also is a key element that allowed Simon to reach her current level. She has had to endure a series of knee injuries that might have caused others in a similar situation to hang up their shoes and try something else.

Simon has kept alive her dream of playing in the WNBA. The new gig in Australia perhaps will help her in that endeavor. If anyone can make it, she can.

Good luck, Dymond!!
