Agua Fria wrestling: All out or get out

January 30, 2018 by Serina Perez, Arizona State University

Although the Agua Fria wrestling team is young, its motto isn’t- “All Out Or Get Out.” It’s a motivation and a bond for this team.

“We say it every single day, even when we aren’t in the wrestling room,” said freshman Trey Reem.

“All Out Or Get Out” is a mentality. “It’s been what drives you all four years, it’s been what drives me,” said senior Al Medina. “‘All Out Or Get Out, whenever you feel like quitting you always refer back to the quote.”

He plans on keeping the tradition of getting it tattooed on his body after graduation.

Freshman Abdurr Abdulmalik’s, who is working towards varsity next year, has his own meaning of the team motto “You do your best and if you don’t want to do your best get out, because all we want in this wrestling room or any sport or even in academics we want you to go your fullest, because if you’re not going you’re fullest we want you to get out.”

But it isn’t just the quote that motivates the team. The coaches teach them it’s all about heart and pushing through all the time, said senior Angel Maestro.  “If you’re down, you can still bounce back up,” said sophomore Robert D’Archangelo describing his biggest life lesson he’ll carry with him outside of wrestling.

Since Medina started wrestling for Coach Jason Richmond his dedication has improved even outside of the wrestling room.

The brotherhood of Agua Fria continues to draw back the wrestlers. Richmond was also once an Agua Fria wrestler and Medina said he definitely can see himself coming back and coaching because of the bond he feels with wrestling itself.

The team is preparing for sectionals on Feb. 3 and will take their “All Out Or Get Out” attitudes along.
