One journey ended. Another one is about to start for Solomon Enis.

Enis, considered the No. 1 high school football recruit in Arizona’s 2017-18 senior class, is headed to the University of Utah, the next stop for the talented and humble star. But before he moves to Salt Lake City, he'll finish his final semester at North Canyon High, where his college announcement was made Wednesday.

Before announcing his pick while being surrounded by family and a gym filled with students, Enis thanked North Canyon’s coaches, administration as well as the school’s equipment manager for everything they did to get him to this point. He won’t be the only North Canyon Rattler heading to Utah, though.

North Canyon safety Tre O’Guinn also committed to Utah just before Enis made his announcement.

“Thank you to the school (North Canyon),” O’Guinn said. “This school changed my life.”

USC, Penn State and Arizona State also were potential destinations for Enis.

Enis’ father, Curtis, played at Penn State and was in attendance Wednesday.

“Everything was just right,” said Enis about why he picked Utah. “The education. I can also play early if I work for it. And I can come back to Arizona, where my family and friends can see me play. It was just a perfect fit overall.”

O’Guinn going to Utah also played a “little bit of a factor,” Enis added.

“It’s going to be great to play with one of my close friends,” Enis said. “Just imagine sharing your dream of playing college football with somebody you (played) with your entire high school career with.”

Also in attendance on Enis’ big day was his mom, Tiffanie Marrero, step-dad Marlon, grandmother Barbara Sigmond, brother Samson and step brothers Estefon and Dionee.

One person who wasn’t there but likely would have also been very proud of Enis signing was George Sigmond, Enis’ grandfather and male role model while growing up. George, an aerospace machinist, passed away last year, but he also had a big hand in raising the respectable Enis.

“I’m very proud of Solomon,” Tiffanie said. “He (Enis) did an amazing job. He studied and looked at everybody. He went with his heart.”

This is the second year in a row that the top Arizona high school recruit came out of North Canyon.

Enis’ former teammate, Austin Jackson, is now at USC.

But O’Guinn and Enis weren’t the only North Canyon stars who signed with 4-year schools Wedneday. Tyrees Moulton (track and field, University of Miami) football player Alexander Morgan (Arizona Christian) and Tali Castle (track, University of Redlands) also took center stage before making their college announcements.
