South Mountain looks to make another run at state

February 24, 2018 by Eric Aldava, Arizona State University

Senior Raelynn Fair is planning to end her track career the way she started it.

As a freshman, Fair won a state title. That's her plan this season.

South Mountain’s team is not to be taken lightly this upcoming season.

With a majority of athletes returning to the track, the Jaguars are confident in making another run in the state meet.

In addition to the returning talent, there is also some new young talent joining the roster.

“It is just going to take some time to get younger athletes as fit as you want them to be,” said coach Dwayne Evans. “Track is physical and sometimes you have to give it your all even when your body wants to quit.”

The Jaguars are known for having one of the top women’s sprint teams in state, winning the relay the past couple years in their division.

Every girl returns to that team ready to compete for another state title, after coming away with the best times last season in the 4 x 100 meter and the 4 x 200 meter races.

The season begins at South Mountain Satursday as the Jaguars host the second Richard Thompson Classic.
