NDP hopes it turned corner with second win of the season

Is Notre Dame's second volleyball win of the season a turning point?

“Hopefully this win will lead to more and more down the road for this team,” said coach Andrew Clark. “We really want to make a push for the playoffs.”

Saints (2-7) were inconsistent early onbut came on strong to beat McClintock in four sets after splitting the first two.

Because of a lack of energy, the Saints found themselves fighting from behind early. They trailed the Chargers for a majority of the first two sets.

“We want to work on starting each game with high energy and then maintaining that high energy throughout the entirety of the game,” said Clark.

Seniors Michael Walsh and David Emig and sophomore Beckett Boyer helped get the team on track.

The Saints put together a strong third set in which they outscored the McClintock team 25-19.

“We picked it up a lot through the second half of the game with accurate hits, and just a strong motivation to win on the road,” said Emig. “We made too many dumb mistakes early on and we eliminated those as the game went on.”

Notre Dame followed up a strong third set with a dominant final set, one in which they led 11-2 early before finishing the game, and match, with a 25-15 set win.

“We began to play the last two sets one point at a time,” said Walsh. “It really slowed the game down for us and helped us to get the win.”
