Volleyball’s highest division championship matches drew overflow crowds at Mesquite High.

The raucous atmosphere is now moving to Arizona State.

The Arizona Interscholastic Association announced Monday that the 6A and 5A Conference championships for girls volleyball are moving to Arizona State’s Wells Fargo Arena for the first time.

“We are excited to work with ASU,” AIA Executive Director David Hines said. “It now provides the AIA with a venue for us to build up these championships that have outgrown our current venues.”

Starting match times for the 5A and 6A finals are 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively, on Nov. 7 to avoid playing during the Nov. 6 general election.

Campo Verde will host the Nov. 5 5A semifinals at 5:45 p.m. and 7:45 p.m., with the higher seeds hosting the first two rounds. Highland will host the 6A’s Nov. 5 semifinals.
