Phoenix Country Day defeats Camp Verde

The Phoenix Country Day boys soccer team extended their perfect record to 10-0 on Monday with a 4-0 victory over Camp Verde High School at the Reach 11 Sports Complex.
Senior Ty Rodin set the tone in the first half of the game by scoring the first goal.
However, while the Eagles were ahead, Camp Verde didn’t let up so easily. The Cowboys played more aggressively leading to a foul for contact. Having played Camp Verde in the past, Phoenix Country Day knew they were going to have to step up their game in the second half. The Eagles held steady and led 2-0 at halftime.
“This was a hard-fought game,” Coach Andrew Rodin. “That team always comes out and plays aggressively. It’s important for our guys to keep their cool and play the way that we know how to play.”
Ty Rodin continued to lead the way in the second half, scoring his third goal.
“After the first half we were able to see what they were all about and that helped us beat them,” said Rodin. As far as his hat trick, Rodin said that he just gets passed the ball and does what he has to.
The Eagles stepped up their defense in the second half.
“In the beginning, we didn’t play very well. We played down to a level that we hadn’t played,” said Ryan Horlick. “They got into our heads at the beginning but we came out at the end. ”
“A couple years ago we used to get destroyed by a lot of these teams," said Horlick, a defensive midfielder. ""So we’re used to being the little guys that get picked on. Now we know to just not hit back and run past them. If we play soccer around them, we don’t have to deal with it.”
The Eagles' next game is today at 4 p.m. against Show Low at the Reach 11 Sports Complex.
