Hamilton’s Macy Simmons named to USA Softball Junior National Training Team Roster
January 3, 2019 by Andy Morales, AZPreps365
USA Softball announced the 20-member roster for the Junior Women’s National Training Team (JWNT) on Wednesday after a four-day tryout held in Clearwater, Florida. Hamilton standout catcher/infielder Macy Simmons made the training roster and the senior will be playing in several tournaments before the final 17-player roster is announced.
“The 2019 19-Under team was selected based on dominant pitching, defense and offense,” said 2019 JWNT head coach Heather Tarr in a release. “The team will be led by the current college freshmen in the NCAA. We are excited to begin our journey together in pursuit of the Gold Medal this August in Irvine, California. I want to thank all of the athletes who competed in the tryout process. We appreciate the work done by the coaches and USA Softball staff at the trials and the committee members who were involved in the selection of this year’s team.”
A MaxPreps First-Team All-American, Simmons led Hamilton to state championships in 2016 and 2017 and a runner-up finish last year.
“I am speechless,” Simmons announced after hearing of her selection. “Thank you to everyone that has gotten me this far. This is really a dream come true and I can’t wait to represent our country.”
Simmons will be playing for Arizona State next year.
