Golf, cross country, swimming, volleyball events set

NOTE: This tournament advisory primarily covers the area from north Scottsdale west through Phoenix, the southwest and northwest Valley, northwest Arizona, northern Arizona and northeast Arizona, including Native American communities.

This weekend brings more fall sports events to Arizona.

*More than three dozen teams will compete in the annual Brophy-Xavier Swimming and Diving Invitational at the Phoenix Swim Club, 29th St. and Campbell Ave. in Phoenix.

Diving will be held Friday (Sept. 23), with swimming events starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 24).

*The Aguila Golf Course in Laveen will be the site of the Aguila Invitational for boys and girls.

Girls play Friday, boys on Friday and Saturday.

Girls teams are Laveen Betty H. Fairfax, Cave Creek Creek Cactus Shadows, Tucson Canyon del Oro, Chandler, Scottsdale Chaparral, Tempe Corona del Sol, Tucson Desert View, Gilbert Highland, Phoenix Horizon, Tempe Marcos de Niza, Phoenix North Canyon, Phoenix Pinnacle, Mesa Red Mountain, Phoenix St. Mary’s, Tucson Salpointe Catholic and Phoenix Xavier Prep.

Boys teams are Apache Junction, Anthem Boulder Creek, Phoenix Brophy Prep, Canyon del Oro, Tucson Catalina Foothills, Laveen Cesar Chavez, Chandler, Chaparral, Corona del Sol, Horizon, Tucson Ironwood Ridge, Marcos de Niza, Goodyear Millennium, Cottonwood Mingus, North Canyon, Phoenix Paradise Valley, Gilbert Perry, Pinnacle, Red Mountain, Tucson Rincon, Chandler Seton Catholic, Mesa Skyline and Phoenix Thunderbird.

*Two volleyball tournaments will be held in northern Arizona, at Joseph City High and Snowflake High. Both are two-day events.

Joseph City participants are Rock Point, Williams, Ash Fork, St. Michael, St. Johns, Keams Canyon Hopi, Grand Canyon, Pinon, Many Farms, Seligman, Sanders Valley and Joseph City.

Snowflake participants are Sells Baboquivari, Lakeside Blue Ridge, Tucson Canyon del Oro, Holbrook, Heber Mogollon, Payson, Safford, San Carlos, Show Low, Snowflake, Fort Defiance Window Rock and Winslow.

*The weather should be close to perfect on Saturday for the Shane C. Morris Invitational cross-country meet for boys and girls, hosted by Lakeside Blue Ridge at Woodland Lake Park in Pinetop.

Participating teams (both boys and girls) are Blue Ridge, Chinle, Cibecue, Flagstaff, Cottonwood Mingus, Payson, Sedona Red Rock and Show Low.
