Despite great play from both sides of the field, the Knights were able to take the win in round one of the playoffs against the Eagles, 42 – 27.

Leading with an onside kick, the Knights quickly reached the ball and took it down the field for the first touchdown of the game, 7 – 0.

The Knights with running back Ledesma, with an 85 yard run, quickly secured the second touchdown for the night, 14 – 0.

Ledesma, again, along with great blocking by the offensive line, ran 70 yards, placing another touchdown under his belt and bringing the score to 21 – 0.

The Eagles led two successful drives down the field in the second quarter bringing the score to Knights 21 – Eagles 14.

With another successful drive by the Knights’ offensive team, Ledesma scores again. A bad snap had Powell pick up the ball and attempt to run for two extra points, but it was foiled by the Eagles, bringing the score to Knights 27 – Eagles 14 for the first half of the game.

Back for the second half, the Knights fumbled the kick-off and it is recovered by the Eagles. The Eagles drove down the field and got their third touchdown of the game, Knights 27 – Eagles 21.

In the third quarter, the Knights secured another touchdown with a two point extra conversion, Knights 35 – Eagles 21.

The Eagles, once again, drove successfully down the field with a foiled extra point to secure their fourth and final touchdown for the night, Knights 35 – Eagles 27.

With one more drive down the field by the Knights, they secured their last touchdown of the night making the final score for the game, Knights 42 – Eagles 27.

Notable performances include:

  • Elijio Ledesma ran the ball 20 times for 343 yards and 4 TD's. On defense, he had 13 tackles. He also recovered the game opening onside kick by Kaleb Powell.
  • Matthew Hershey was 8/9 passing for 76 yards and 1 TD. He also ran the ball for 56 yards and another TD.
  • Kaleb Powell caught two passes for 31 yards and 1 TD. He connected on all 4 PAT's.
  • Caden Heyn caught 5 passes on the night and played lockdown defense at Cornerback.
  • Zach Hohmann was a monster on the DL with a handful of tackles at the line of scrimmage as well as two sacks.

We congratulate the coaching staff led by Danny Norris and the players for their great offensive and defensive play that led them here through the first round of the playoffs. Not bad for a young team. Practice and perseverance pays off in the long run.

The Knights will play the Morenci Wildcats, in the quarterfinals, at Morenci High School on Friday, November 12th at 7:00PM.

Go Knights!
